Sustaining the Future of CGI-Clinics

At CGI-Clinics, our mission is to build a robust bridge between research and the clinic, powered by transparency and excellent science. We have strong Open Science roots and we are growing to ensure the Cancer Genome Interpreter (CGI) remains a stable, compliant, and continuously improving resource. We are committed to balancing academic innovation with the practical realities of maintaining a reliable tool and ready to use tool for patient care.

Our Sustainability Approach

Our priority is long-term scientific and clinical value, rather than short-term project cycles. We are developing structures to move from the EU funded project to a self-sustained professional initiative.

Our Sustainability Journey

Running a platform of this scale and clinical ambition involves substantial and ongoing investment – from daily operational expenses and cloud hosting to the rigorous engineering required for professional maintenance and achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Currently, these costs are covered by the CGI-Clinics EU-funded project, a collaborative effort involving direct co-creation between computational cancer genomics experts and 10 clinical sites in Europe.

However, to ensure CGI continues beyond the lifetime of the grant and thrives as a permanent resource, we are developing a phased sustainability model to share operational costs, initially focused on organisations with high-volume usage or advanced computational needs. We also consider adequate partnerships with industry partners wishing to use CGI for commercial purposes. Facilitating testing and adoption by clinical sites and healthcare systems remains a key objective in the project, and so we offer dedicated onboarding support. Please contact us to discuss potential integration.

The CGI Community

CGI was developed to meet a critical clinical need: streamlining cancer genome interpretation and transforming Variants of Uncertain Significance (VUS) into actionable insights. Co-created alongside ten clinical partners and leading cancer genomicists, CGI is more than a platform – it is a collaborative ecosystem.

By joining us, you become part of a community where every insight and variant curation helps refine the tool for everyone. We are excited to have you with us as we transition from a grant-funded initiative into a self-sustaining global resource, building a more robust, science-driven future for oncology together.
